“Your Swabhimaan Review“through reviews and debates at District, State and National Levels is an initiative to get peoplethinking and understand:

  • What, how, why of reservation in education and jobs.
  • What people actuallythink of Reservation in education and jobs.
  • The actual need; and effects / ill effects of reservation in education and jobs.
  • How a good reservation policy can upliftthe underprivileged with least impact on productivity

Due to incessant rains in many parts of India, we are compelled to reschedule the program at some locations. Below table gives the schedule finalized, we will shortly update the dates where TBA (To Be Announced) is mentioned. Participants can register and go through the writing & analytical test.

‘Your Swabhimaan Review’ – Program Outcome

A comprehensive report with feedback / suggestions / recommendations based on reviews and debates to be sent to Ministry of Social Justice; Ministry of HRD & Education; and other relevant functionaries in all States.the report will also be shared on social media.the report will include

  • 1. List mentioning participating organizations, institutes etc
  • 2. Bestthoughts and contributors of bestthoughts
  • 3. Special write ups from top teams
  • 4. Special write ups from Institutes involved as ‘Hosts’
  • 5. Special write ups from district level winners onward

    ‘Your Swabhimaan Review’ – Round 1: Writing & Analytical

    Registration Fee shall be 50% for the first 50 teams registering at every location.

  • Participants shall be given online access to watchthe introductory film with a backdrop ofthe subject. Film shall be available online for 72 hrs form when link is sent.
  • Review should be submitted online within 48 hrs of watchingthe film. Participants shall sendthe review via GoogleForms. A link forthe same shall be sent along withthe link for watchingthe film.
  • The review has to be also shared on www.facebook.com/MySwabhimaan as a comment onthe status of your school / college or city.
  • Review may be written as a review on a commercial film onthe story, acting, direction, editing, music, entertainment value etc; in any language (Hindi, English, Marathi, Gujarati) or cross language.
  • In maximum 600 words your review has to cover at least any 2 ofthe following points
    • a. Use of film media for social awareness and change attempted inthe film.
    • b. Highlighting of politics done over reservation system as shown inthe film.
    • c. Agreement / disagreement on opinions about reservation inthe film.
    • d. Possible effectthe film will have on audience’s voting pattern in any election.
  • Tip: Keep your review interesting to read. Do not forget to ratethe film on a scale of 5 stars. Please mention your name, School / College / Coaching Class and City atthe bottom of your review.

    Writing and analytical skills will be judged from your review ofthe film. Review may be either written as a team; or both members may write individual reviews.

    Parameters of judging review are:

  • Isthe review written as a film review.
  • Isthe review kept interesting to read.
  • How well are any 2 or more points covered.
  • Isthere a logical explanation in case of agreement / disagreement tothoughts inthe film.
  • Selected teams proceed tothe next round.

    ‘Your Swabhimaan Review’ –Round 2, 3 & 4: Live Debates

    Registration Fee shall be 50% for the first 50 teams registering at every location.

     Teams clearing Round 1 shall debate atthe District Round of debates.

     Every debate shall have maximum 8 teams debating in respective categories.

     Each debate shall be webcast on multiple social media platforms by multiple users.

     Debates shall be recorded on camera for edited programs/news reports.

    Note: Debates up to State level may be done in Local language, Hindi and English; however for Zonal / National rounds debates shall be done in Hindi and English.

    Debate Format

    • Each team will be given two minutes to expresstheir views with a logical explanation, during which other teams are expected to maketheir notes to either support or oppose views raised by any other teams.
    • Each team will again be given 2 minutes to counter or supportthe views of any other teams.
    • Each team will be given a minute each to reply to counters againsttheir views.
    • Finally each team will be given half minute to sum uptheir position.

    the panel of judges will give points on a scale of 10 on each ofthe following parameters

      • Logic in views
      • Logic in countering others’ views and response to views countered / supported.
      • Clarity in communicating views andthoughts.
      • Practicality in implementing views andthoughts.
      • Respecting others’ / graceful acceptance if someone have countered convincingly.
      • Negative marking for unnecessary interrupting others’/ disrespecting moderator

      Top Teams shall progress to State / Zonal and subsequently National Level Debates

      Basic Rules and Regulations

      MIT-SOG Your Swabhimaan Review is aimed at settingthe highest standards of debating, communication and healthy exchange of points of view. Here arethe rules and regulations.

      • Respect for every individual. Allthe participants andtheir accomplices including faculty members are required to show utmost respect to other participants,the audiences, organizers, officials and judges.
      • Use of offensive, aggressive, abusive, derogatory, racial, communal, casteist, sexist statements or any form of discriminatory language, body language or any such act is strictly prohibited.
      • No form of physical aggression or violence of any kind will be tolerated under any circumstances.
      • Any physical damage to property atthe venue will have to be compensated immediately as perthe value determined bythe host institute.
      • the provisions ofthe relevant laws ofthe land will be applied and legal action will be taken if deemed necessary.
      • Duringthe debate every participant is expected to follow decorum.
        • Only one person speaks at a time. A participant will be barred fromthe debate ifthey speak out of turn for a second time.
        • Do not repeat a point.
        • Listen tothe speaker.
        • Do not make any facial and bodily gestures when someone is speaking.
        • Do not cross talk.
        • Keep Cell phones or any other electronic devices on silent mode.
      • the judges and organizers reservethe right to disqualify a participant or a team without explanation forthe violation of any ofthe above rules.

    ‘Your Swabhimaan Review’ - Introductory Film

    “Ye Saccha Swabhimaan Sahi Sangharsh” (Ye4S) is a film forthe “Let’s Change” series. Most people refrain from speaking outtheir honest opinions onthe Reservation System. Mostlythis is so because of a fearthat it gets carried to religion / caste / community. Butthis is not true; it gets carried away only because it is taken inthat direction.

    Ye4S will introduce to a way of takingthis discussion on logic and practicality.this film is not made as a “preacher” or an art film. It is attempted to be kept entertaining while giving enough food forthought in a subtle way.thoughthe budgets had to be kept very tight, we have tried to keep it as close to being a regular entertaining film as possible.the film comes with its moments of song, dance, light comedy and romance.

    “Ye Saccha Swabhimaan Sahi Sangharsh” has been honored with “Outstanding Achievement Award” at Calcutta International Cult Film Festival recently.

  • A: Yes.the film presents both sides of arguments in a commercial film format. It hence becomes an ideal medium to communicate a common food forthought.
  • 2. Where can I watchthe film?

  • A:the film will be made available online. Link shall be sent to all participants onthe email / WhatsApp provided on your registration form.the link shall also be sharedthroughthis website.
  • 3. After sending review via GoogleForms why do I have to also sharethe review on Facebook page?

  • A: Review on Facebook page will bring out certainthoughts inthe public forum beforethe debates;thus creating a stage for highly competitive and logical debates.
  • 4. When and where does a participant submitthe review?

  • A: Every participant shall write a review in any language or cross language and submitthrough GoogleForms. Link shall be sent along with link tothe introductory film.
  • 5. Who judge and on what parameters?

  • A:throughthe School / College / Group Coordinator or by direct Facebook / Whatsapp message. It is advisable to regularly checkthis website; and our Facebook and Twitter pages.
  • 7. Will you be making travel and stay arrangements if I get invited forthe debates at other centers / Regional or National Finale?

  • A: No. Participants / colleges shall maketheir own arrangements.
  • 8. What isthe format and language of open debate?

  • A: Teams of 2 shall debate with 7 other teams. Debates may be in cross language (local language, Hindi, English) up tothe state level; however for zonal / National level debates should be in Hindi & English. Individuals from open category may also be invited to conduct debates; and also participate in debates for open category.
  • 9. What isthe time limit for each debate?

  • A: Each debate shall be for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Each team shall be given 2 minutes for opening.this will be followed by questions, counter arguments etc.
  • 10. Willthe debates be covered by any channel?

  • A: Certain channels shall telecast edited programs / highlights. We are certainthat many news channels will coverthe debates, however are unsure of full coverage / programming. Our edited programs shall be sent to many news channels fortheir news reports.the debates shall be made live on multiple social media platforms by multiple users. Participants or audience may also record / telecast live on social media.
  • 11. When and where will State / Zonal Debates happen?

  • A: State / Zonal Open Debates will happen in an important city ofthe State / Zone.the venues shall be declared shortly.
  • 12. When and where will National Debate happen?

  • A: National Finale will happen in either Pune, Mumbai or Delhi on 20th October 2019.
